Medical Billing & Coding
The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist program prepares students for entry level healthcare administrative roles. Students learn medical coding, insurance billing, reimbursement systems, compliance, and electronic health records.
Why study Medical Billing & Coding at Centralia College?
The Medical Billing and Coding program at Centralia College is offered in a “virtual plus” format. Students attend live, scheduled class sessions from any location with an internet connection. This format gives students the flexibility to learn from home, work, or wherever works best for them, while still benefiting from real-time interaction with instructors and classmates at set meeting times.
Fall 2026
Centralia College is now registering for the fall 2026 cohort. This is a full-time, 9-month program (September-June) on the Centralia College campus. Fall classes start September 21. Registration for the fall 2027 cohort will open in spring 2027.
How to Register
Follow the Steps to Start for new students. On the admission form, choose Professional Technical for the program and Medical Billing & Coding for the degree.

Career Possiblities
Entry-level positions typically require completion of a certificate and passing one of the certification exams in medical billing and coding. The Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) is offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) is an entry-level medical billing certification for physician practices. Additionally, medical billing and coding professionals must understand the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
